Cigarette cards

Revision History

Welcome to the Flags on Stamps Web site.  This site aims to provide listings of every stamp in the Stanley Gibbons Stamps of the World 2006 catalogue that includes one or more flag(s) in its design.

This includes stamps showing national colours, but excludes stamps showing coats of arms, emblems, logos, banners, etc.  Miniature sheets are excluded, unless they are specifically illustrated (or mentioned as including flags) in Stamps of the World, or the sheets have been seen to include flags by collectors.  Some or all of these may be added at a later date.

Bob Hunt has been a tremendous help to me in putting forward ideas for the web site, and introducing me to the pleasures and pitfalls of collecting flags on stamps.  Please have a look at his web pages, starting with http://bh1861.home.att.net/flagstamps.html

Other useful web sites are listed in the links section.

Stanley Gibbons in the UK have graciously consented to use of their catalogue numbers on this non-profit web site.  Unfortunately, Amos Hobby Publications require a license and a 'substantial fee' for allowing Scott numbers to be used as a cross reference to SG catalogue numbers, even on a non-commercial web site, so the Scott catalogue numbers have regrettably not been included here.

Flags on cigarette cards are included in a separate section.  Just click on the button at the top left corner of this page.  I have also acquired some embroidered post-cards from WW I, which I hope to illustrate there.

It is hoped that this information will be useful to vexillologists, cartophilists and philatelists, particularly thematic or topical collectors.

This is a long term project, in which countries, stamps and cards will be added frequently, so please come back often, or check the revision history to see what has changed since your last visit.

These pages have been designed so that they can be printed out easily.  There is a Yahoo discussion group (flagsonstamps) to discuss flags on stamps, and the content and layout of this web site, and for you to post images of stamps that include flags in their design, which will be added to this web site.

Index of stamp issuing countries and other issuing authorities.

The order of this list corresponds to Stanley Gibbons Stamps of the World 2006, but only those countries that are known to have issued flags on stamps are listed, and are linked to their appropriate pages.

If there is not a hyperlink for the country name, that means that there are no flags on the stamps of that country.  Other countries will be added to the list if they are found to have issued flags on stamps.

Please check the revision history to see if new countries have been added since you last accessed this index.

Please click on one of the letters on the left to go to the list of countries that start with that letter, or scroll down the list below.
